1 AfterH310 these things,H1697 and the establishmentH571 thereof, SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 came,H935 and enteredH935 into Judah,H3063 and encampedH2583 against the fencedH1219 cities,H5892 and thoughtH559 to winH1234 them for himself. 2 And when HezekiahH3169 sawH7200 that SennacheribH5576 was come,H935 and that he was purposedH6440 to fightH4421 against Jerusalem,H3389 3 He took counselH3289 with his princesH8269 and his mighty menH1368 to stopH5640 the watersH4325 of the fountainsH5869 which were withoutH2351 the city:H5892 and they did helpH5826 him. 4 So there was gatheredH6908 muchH7227 peopleH5971 together,H6908 who stoppedH5640 all the fountains,H4599 and the brookH5158 that ranH7857 through the midstH8432 of the land,H776 saying,H559 Why should the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 come,H935 and findH4672 muchH7227 water?H4325 5 Also he strengthenedH2388 himself, and built upH1129 all the wallH2346 that was broken,H6555 and raised it upH5927 to the towers,H4026 and anotherH312 wallH2346 without,H2351 and repairedH2388 MilloH4407 in the cityH5892 of David,H1732 and madeH6213 dartsH7973 and shieldsH4043 in abundance.H7230 6 And he setH5414 captainsH8269 of warH4421 over the people,H5971 and gathered them togetherH6908 to him in the streetH7339 of the gateH8179 of the city,H5892 and spakeH1696 comfortablyH3824 to them, saying,H559 7 Be strongH2388 and courageous,H553 be not afraidH3372 nor dismayedH2865 forH6440 the kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 nor for all the multitudeH1995 that is with him: for there be moreH7227 with us than with him: 8 With him is an armH2220 of flesh;H1320 but with us is the LORDH3068 our GodH430 to helpH5826 us, and to fightH3898 our battles.H4421 And the peopleH5971 restedH5564 themselves upon the wordsH1697 of HezekiahH3169 kingH4428 of Judah.H3063 9 AfterH310 this did SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sendH7971 his servantsH5650 to Jerusalem,H3389 (but he himself laid siege against Lachish,H3923 and all his powerH4475 with him,) unto HezekiahH3169 kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 and unto all JudahH3063 that were at Jerusalem,H3389 saying,H559 10 Thus saithH559 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 Whereon do ye trust,H982 that ye abideH3427 in the siegeH4692 in Jerusalem?H3389 11 Doth not HezekiahH3169 persuadeH5496 you to giveH5414 over yourselves to dieH4191 by famineH7458 and by thirst,H6772 saying,H559 The LORDH3068 our GodH430 shall deliverH5337 us out of the handH3709 of the kingH4428 of Assyria?H804 12 Hath not the same HezekiahH3169 taken awayH5493 his high placesH1116 and his altars,H4196 and commandedH559 JudahH3063 and Jerusalem,H3389 saying,H559 Ye shall worshipH7812 beforeH6440 oneH259 altar,H4196 and burn incenseH6999 upon it? 13 KnowH3045 ye not what I and my fathersH1 have doneH6213 unto all the peopleH5971 of other lands?H776 were the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of those landsH776 any waysH3201 ableH3201 to deliverH5337 their landsH776 out of mine hand?H3027 14 Who was there among all the godsH430 of those nationsH1471 that my fathersH1 utterly destroyed,H2763 that couldH3201 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of mine hand,H3027 that your GodH430 should be ableH3201 to deliverH5337 you out of mine hand?H3027 15 Now therefore let notH3808 HezekiahH2396 deceiveH5377 you, nor persuadeH5496 you on this manner, neither yet believeH539 him: for no godH433 of any nationH1471 or kingdomH4467 was ableH3201 to deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of mine hand,H3027 and out of the handH3027 of my fathers:H1 how much less shall your GodH430 deliverH5337 you out of mine hand?H3027 16 And his servantsH5650 spakeH1696 yet more against the LORDH3068 God,H430 and against his servantH5650 Hezekiah.H3169 17 He wroteH3789 also lettersH5612 to railH2778 on the LORDH3068 GodH430 of Israel,H3478 and to speakH559 against him, saying,H559 As the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of other landsH776 have not deliveredH5337 their peopleH5971 out of mine hand,H3027 so shall not the GodH430 of HezekiahH3169 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of mine hand.H3027 18 Then they criedH7121 with a loudH1419 voiceH6963 in the Jews' speechH3066 unto the peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 that were on the wall,H2346 to affrightH3372 them, and to troubleH926 them; that they might takeH3920 the city.H5892 19 And they spakeH1696 againstH5921 the GodH430 of Jerusalem,H3389 as against the godsH430 of the peopleH5971 of the earth,H776 which were the workH4639 of the handsH3027 of man.H120 20 And for this cause HezekiahH3169 the king,H4428 and the prophetH5030 IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of Amoz,H531 prayedH6419 and criedH2199 to heaven.H8064 21 And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 an angel,H4397 which cut offH3582 all the mighty menH1368 of valour,H2428 and the leadersH5057 and captainsH8269 in the campH4264 of the kingH4428 of Assyria.H804 So he returnedH7725 with shameH1322 of faceH6440 to his own land.H776 And when he was comeH935 into the houseH1004 of his god,H430 they that came forthH3329 of his own bowelsH4578 slewH5307 him there with the sword.H2719 22 Thus the LORDH3068 savedH3467 HezekiahH3169 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 from the handH3027 of SennacheribH5576 the kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 and from the handH3027 of all other, and guidedH5095 them on every side.H5439 23 And manyH7227 broughtH935 giftsH4503 unto the LORDH3068 to Jerusalem,H3389 and presentsH4030 to HezekiahH3169 kingH4428 of Judah:H3063 so that he was magnifiedH5375 in the sightH5869 of all nationsH1471 from thenceforth.H310 24 In those daysH3117 HezekiahH3169 was sickH2470 to the death,H4191 and prayedH6419 unto the LORD:H3068 and he spakeH559 unto him, and he gaveH5414 him a sign.H4159 25 But HezekiahH3169 rendered not againH7725 according to the benefitH1576 done unto him; for his heartH3820 was lifted up:H1361 therefore there was wrathH7110 upon him, and upon JudahH3063 and Jerusalem.H3389 26 Notwithstanding HezekiahH3169 humbledH3665 himself for the prideH1363 of his heart,H3820 both he and the inhabitantsH3427 of Jerusalem,H3389 so that the wrathH7110 of the LORDH3068 cameH935 not upon them in the daysH3117 of Hezekiah.H3169 27 And HezekiahH3169 had exceedingH3966 muchH7235 richesH6239 and honour:H3519 and he madeH6213 himself treasuriesH214 for silver,H3701 and for gold,H2091 and for preciousH3368 stones,H68 and for spices,H1314 and for shields,H4043 and for all manner of pleasantH2532 jewels;H3627 28 StorehousesH4543 also for the increaseH8393 of corn,H1715 and wine,H8492 and oil;H3323 and stallsH723 for all manner of beasts,H929 and cotesH220 for flocks.H5739 29 Moreover he providedH6213 him cities,H5892 and possessionsH4735 of flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 in abundance:H7230 for GodH430 had givenH5414 him substanceH7399 veryH3966 much.H7227 30 This same HezekiahH3169 also stoppedH5640 the upperH5945 watercourseH4325 ofH4161 Gihon,H1521 and brought it straightH3474 downH4295 to the west sideH4628 of the cityH5892 of David.H1732 And HezekiahH3169 prosperedH6743 in all his works.H4639 31 HowbeitH3651 in the business of the ambassadorsH3887 of the princesH8269 of Babylon,H894 who sentH7971 unto him to enquireH1875 of the wonderH4159 that was done in the land,H776 GodH430 leftH5800 him, to tryH5254 him, that he might knowH3045 all that was in his heart.H3824 32 Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Hezekiah,H3169 and his goodness,H2617 behold, they are writtenH3789 in the visionH2377 of IsaiahH3470 the prophet,H5030 the sonH1121 of Amoz,H531 and in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and Israel.H3478 33 And HezekiahH3169 sleptH7901 with his fathers,H1 and they buriedH6912 him in the chiefestH4608 of the sepulchresH6913 of the sonsH1121 of David:H1732 and all JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 did himH6213 honourH3519 at his death.H4194 And ManassehH4519 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
